Creating the Final Pieces and Mounting

For my final pieces I created one for an environment, the main character and a weapon concept all on A3 paper. For two of these I used pencil and some charcoal, but for my weapon concept I wanted to add more colour and contrast so I used pastels and the scanned it into Photoshop to make it darker.

For my presentation of my work I mounted my concept pieces onto mount board to make them feel more finished and it was easier to hold up during the presentation without bending or folding the images.
These are my three final pieces. My favourite of the three is the environment because this is the one I spent the most time on and has the most detail. In my feedback I found people preferred my concept art for my weapon, I guess this was because it stood out more because of the darkness of the image.

Experimenting with different Media

For this project I wanted to experiement with different media forms. I really wanted to use something that was colourful, which would be different from my usual charcoal images.

My choice of media was pastels. I love the way these blend and can create really colourful images, but the use of black pastels can make the images darker too.

Above is a design for an axe that would be found in game. I used the black and white pastel to create lighter and darker areas. I also used a blue pastel to make the design look different from just a normal axe. After I scanned it into the PC, I used Photoshop to give the image contrast and to darken certain areas. I also added a glow effect around the blue crystals on the axe so it would look like it was glowing.

I also created a design for the main city in the game. Using greens and blues I made the places outside the city look nice and natural. But I wanted to give the impression that inside the city walls is quite dark and bleak so I used a black pastel for this.

Game Case

All games have there own unique game covers which are seen on the boxes that the discs come in. For my game cover I wanted it to be dark to represent the darkness of the game style. In the centre is the logo for my game. I used a leather texture for the background as this would represent the style of the leather bound books that were used during the medieval period.

Logo

22/05/2014

For this project I will need a logo for my game design. I designed one using photoshop and a font from dafont.com. I also used some textures off the internet to create the metal, rough look it has. I looked at other logo designs from similar games and TV shows. I decided my logo would need to be dark, be a serif font and look medieval.

I firstly designed the over all look which you can see above, but then I wanted to add something to make it more relevant to my game.
I found a sillouette of a girl with long hair which would fit in well with my game design, I gave it the same texture and design as the font. I thought it would look best within the O because of the big space.

First Sketches of Characters etc.

22/05/2014 Log 1

These are some rough sketches of some of my characters and a rough sketch of a dress that might be worn by one of the female characters.

For these sketches I used a 4B, 2H pencils, a willow charcoal stick and a paper stump for smudging. I want my final pieces to be done using charcoal and dark colours to reflect the darkness of the game.

This is my first portrait of Anna, I am thinking about just doing a portrait for this character because her most interesting feature is her beauty. For my first sketch I did the eyes quite large, although i might try to develop them to make them smaller as it makes her look rather childish.

This is a sketch of a dress that might be worn by some of the characters. I based it on a medieveal design that you might see in movies and TV shows. It's floor length, with long sleeves and a corset style back.

Olden is a strong, muscular character. For this initial sketch I made him quite skinny but tall, I think in my next sketches he will be bigger with more amour on.
